I found out this week that I tied for third place in the Famous Fans competition. It’s been a blast to talk about Famous Dave’s this summer, and the winners were truly great ambassadors for Famous Dave’s.
Thanks to the folks at Famous Dave’s for the giftcards and goodies they sent my way during the Famous Fans promotion. It was fun!
I’ll still try to update this blog when we visit new Famous Dave’s locations, but otherwise you won’t be hearing quite as much from me about Famous Dave’s.
Thanks for reading. Make it a famous day!

Our challenge this week is a little hard for me because it requires me to say why I’m a better Famous Fan than all the others, and believe me, there are some great Famous Fans in this competition.
I’m usually all about the numbers, so I’ll offer up these tangible pieces of evidence:
- If you Google “Famous Dave’s Famous Fans,” the posts that show up just below the official Famous Dave’s pages are mine, linking to all the reasons Famous Dave’s is great, as evidenced on this site. Likewise, a Google search for “Famous Dave’s PIG Club” pulls up one of my posts to the front page. SEO folks like to make a big deal about hitting the front page of Google for any particular search.
- A search of flickr for “Famous Dave’s” brings up 200+ photos in the Famous Dave’s flickr group I created. (I will admit that a lot of the other Famous Fans added their photos to the group, for which I thank them.)
- A link to every one of the 84 blog posts I did about Famous Dave’s this summer was sent to my 3000 (and counting) Twitter followers and was shown to my 10,000+ monthly Travels with Children visitors.
- Although I didn’t share my Facebook page publicly, I did plenty of talking about Famous Dave’s with my personal friends on Facebook.
There you have it! If you’re looking for a Famous Fan who used a wide variety of social media, I’m it. Blogging, twitter, flickr, Facebook, all are a part of my world and all of my contacts in those media heard a lot about Famous Dave’s this summer.
Of course, if you’re looking for a warm and fuzzy reason to crown me the most Famous Fan, just ask my four little kids, and they’ll tell you I’m the best Famous Fan there is. And do you know what? Win or lose, that’s all I need to know.
It’s been a blast being one of the Famous Fans this summer. Famous Dave’s gave me some great prizes along the way, and we’ll be back not because they gave us free stuff, but because our family really does love Famous Dave’s.

We don’t really go to the fair for the fried-food-on-a-stick like most Minnesotans, so finding Famous Dave’s with their trusted menu items near the grandstand was a real treat. Instead of corn bread muffins, they serve squares of corn bread, and the menu is smaller than usual, but it’s still the same great Famous Dave’s food.
The other treat at the fair Famous Dave’s is perhaps the strangest-sounding but best-tasting fair food I’ve encountered: Pig Lickers, which are pieces of bacon covered with chocolate. It’s a strange yet sensational combination of salty and sweet, and it’s good bacon dipped in really good chocolate.
I couldn’t polish off the whole order by myself, so I shared with some deserving-looking FFA students at the next table.
If you go to the Minnesota State Fair, Pig Lickers at Famous Dave’s should definitely be on your to-taste list.

Location, location, location. When you’re headed up to the third-floor food court at Mall of America, think again about your choices and head across the hallway to Famous Dave’s instead. You’ll be rewarded with a fun atmosphere and good food that will sustain you through the rest of your shopping day.
Remember that the early bird specials at Mall of America Famous Dave’s end at 3:00, so for your best value, make it a meal earlier in the day.

Yeah, I know this sounds goofy, but I love looking around at the vintage ads and pictures that adorn the restrooms at Famous Dave’s. Every one is different.
If you ever wonder why I’m in the bathroom so much at Famous Dave’s, it might just be because I’m looking at all the stuff on the walls.

Part of the fun of Famous Dave’s is the barbecue humor found in the restaurant on signs and employees’ t-shirts. Today’s favorite:
Ribalicious!

The uniform of a Famous Dave’s staff member isn’t fancy. They get to wear black t-shirts with witty little sayings on them. Taco Bell has clever things on their sauce packets; Famous Dave’s saves the humor for their t-shirts. I can’t remember any of cute & clever things right now, but believe me when I say that part of the fun of eating at Famous Dave’s is seeing what’s on the employees’ shirts.

Although most Famous Dave’s are found in neighborhoods, once in a while there’s one along and interstate highway that makes a Dave’s stop when traveling very easy.
At Owatonna, Minnesota, Famous Dave’s is located right by the big Cabela’s store, and just down the road from the outlet mall.
So send Dad and the kids to Cabela’s (hey, a mom can always dream!) and let Mom shop the outlet stores, and then meet at Famous Dave’s where everyone can enjoy themselves. It works out perfectly for the whole family.
