Why I Love Famous Dave’s #22: Big Tables

July 19, 2009 · Leave a Comment

We’ve gone to restaurants and asked for a table for six, then had to wait while they moved tables and chairs and tried to put two tiny tables together to fit our family.  Not so at Famous Dave’s.  They have nice big tables that fit our family of six easily.

If you have a large family or just are going out with several friends, don’t be afraid to step into Dave’s.  There’s room for all of you.

Why I Love Famous Dave’s #19: Famous Fries

July 18, 2009 · Leave a Comment

The french fries at Famous Dave’s are wedge-shaped and seasoned just right.  Once you start on them, it’s hard to keep your fingers out of the basket.  Kid3, who’s a really really really (did I say really?) picky eater is even a connoisseur of French Fries, and the Famous Fries at Famous Dave’s pass her test.  She usually asks for any extra fries to be boxed up so she can finish them on the drive home.

Because of the fries, we can be guaranteed that she’ll eat something at Famous Dave’s, and that’s worth quite a bit in our book.  Maybe they should be called Famous Fries for Finicky Fry Fans.

Why I Love Famous Dave’s #21: Trophies

July 17, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I suppose this one isn’t so much my favorite as my kids’, but it’s there just the same.  Every Famous Dave’s restaurant has a collection of trophies from the awards Famous Dave has won for his ribs and sauces.  The kids love going into a new location and trying to find the trophies.  Sometimes they’re at the hostess station and sometimes we have to look a little harder, but the trophy hunt at Famous Dave’s is something my kids love.

Congrats, Famous Dave, on all those trophies!

Weekly Challenge: Photo of you with family & friends at Famous Dave’s

July 16, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Since I don’t like to post pictures of my kids publicly on the Internet, I’m going to have to pass on this week’s challenge.  If one of my readers would like to enter, though, that would be great!  You can post a link to a picture on another site, and maybe you’ll win this week’s challenge!

If I were to post a photo, though, it would probably be of me and my friend and our collective seven kids, aged 3-9.  We’ve visited two different Famous Dave’s together (Highland Park and Minnetonka) and despite the apprehensive looks we got as we walked in, all went well.  My friend hadn’t eaten at Famous Dave’s before and was delighted at how affordable it was.  In addition, she’s a big fan of ribs, so it was definitely the place to go.

Post your favorite at-Famous-Dave’s picture, and maybe you’ll win.

Otherwise, enjoy these other Famous Dave’s moments from the Famous Dave’s Flickr Group.

Part of the fun of Famous Dave’s is the barbecue humor found in the restaurant on signs and employees’ t-shirts.  Today’s favorite:

Why I Love Famous Dave’s #20: Location

July 15, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Famous Dave’s usually isn’t found by the mall where all the other chain restaurants are located.  Instead, Famous Dave’s tends to be hidden away, off the beaten path, to give it a neighborhood-restaurant feel.  It’s a pleasant surprise to see a Famous Dave’s pop up in an unexpected location, and it gets us away from the hectic pace of mall-and-hotel areas.

We’re off-the-beaten-path people.  Maybe that’s why we like Famous Dave’s so much, because they seem to have the same philosophy.

Our Favorite Famous Dave’s: Minnetonka, MN

July 13, 2009 · Leave a Comment

The Famous Dave’s on Highway 7 in Minnetonka isn’t really on our way, but if we’re on the western edge of the Cities, we manage to find our way there occasionally.  I hope the Minnetonka folks don’t take this personally, but my most vivid memories of F.D. Minnetonka are of kids falling asleep during the meal.

I guess we just wear them out with all of our adventures, because on two or three occasions I’ve had toddlers fall asleep right in the middle of the music and activity that’s at Famous Dave’s.

The Minnetonka location is also where we can find the entire alphabet in the decor at least once, and maybe more, before our food arrives.  The alphabet game is one of our favorite restaurant distractions, and with Famous Dave’s decor, it can keep us busy for quite a while.

Minnetonka Famous Dave’s:  where kids like to sleep?  Maybe it’s just because they’re really made to feel at home there.

Why I Love Famous Dave’s #18: The Kids’ Menus

July 11, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Our kids love Famous Dave’s because their kids’ menus have enough activities on them to keep the kids busy until their food arrives.  The jokes and games are fun for a variety of ages, and have I mentioned the nice crayons the kids can use?

More importantly, the kids’ menus showcase the “Lil’ Wilbur Meals” choices, which range from Macaroni and Cheese to Chicken Tenders to Ribs.  Along with each meal comes one of the adult side choices or carrots & celery, plus Oreos and a fountain beverage or milk.

The Lil’ Wilbur Meals are a good way to introduce little guys to the good food of Famous Dave’s.  Some days my husband wishes he were under age 10 so he could get his ribs for $4.99.
